The Campaign Spot

Looking to the Past, Not the Future

It’s not on their web site yet, but I just saw an ad from Americans United for Change, hitting a nearby congressman, Rep. Frank Wolf (R., Va.), for voting against the cap-and-tax, er, “cap-and-trade” bill.

But the outlook for the bill in the Senate isn’t all that hot. Four Democratic senators are saying it should be put off until next year. And “10 moderate Democratic senators from coal and manufacturing states” are expressing their own worries to Reid and Obama.

The AUC ad didn’t mention the Senate, didn’t mention any upcoming vote on a conference bill, didn’t mention much of anything that viewers, stirred to outrage, could do about Wolf and his vote.

Why is this group spending money on an ad saying “tsk, tsk” on House dissenters when there’s still a fight ahead in the other chamber?

Is this another case of a group having more money than it knows what to do with?
