In his comments Sunday, Mitt said what many of us thought about his comment about his sons – that it was a slip of the tongue, and he didn’t mean to compare working for his campaign to serving in uniform.
“I misspoke there. I didn’t mean in any way to compare service in the country with my boys in any way. Service in this country is an extraordinary sacrifice being made by individuals and their families,” Romney said on “Fox News Sunday.”
“I’m very pleased and proud of my boys and the help they’re doing for their dad, but it’s not service to the country. It’s service for me. And there’s just no comparison there.”
That doesn’t stop Paul Krugman from not only quoting the comment, not only ignoring Romney’s subsequent statements, but suggesting that his comment is all we need to know to conclude that Romney’s a narcissist and “monstrously self-centered.” (Right. Because the Democrats are going to nominate that modest shrinking violet Hillary.) Thankfully Krugman’s column is still contained behind TimesSelect, but sadly, I understand that barrier will not remain for long.
Mr. Sulzberger, don’t tear down this TimeSelect wall!
