I think Doug Hoffman has a good shot at a rematch with Rep. Bill Owens in New York’s 23rd congressional district. Except next time, Hoffman might be on the GOP line on the ballot, as well as the Conservative party line. The news this morning:
William A. Barclay said Sunday he will not seek the Republican nomination in the 23rd Congressional District and instead will campaign for re-election to the state Assembly . . . Mr. Barclay’s decision to drop out of the congressional race leaves three potential candidates for the GOP line.
Douglas L. Hoffman, a Lake Placid accountant who finished second during last fall’s special election, and Matthew A. Doheny, a Watertown businessman, are committed. Franklin County Legislator Paul A. Maroun, Tupper Lake, is interested, but said he has not made up his mind.
If I were Doug Hoffman, I’d be spending these days becoming fluent in every local issue in every corner of the district, since I think that was a key weak spot in last fall’s special election . . .
