Non-Medicaid Enrollees Still Pretty Scarce

Non-Medicaid enrollment continues to roar cruise trickle along.

Mississippi has 35.

South Dakota has 32.

Kentucky, one of the much-touted success stories, is at 4,832. More than 21,000 have enrolled through Medicaid, meaning they’re not really paying much in terms of premiums. Because Medicaid enrollees pay so little into the system, they don’t do anything to mitigate the “death spiral.”

New York has 13,313, which sounds like a lot, until you realize the administration’s goal for March 31 is 218,000. You will see headlines about “37,000 enrolled in New York” but that counts more than 20,000 getting coverage under the state’s Medicaid system.
