The Campaign Spot

Not Even the Washington Post Can Muster Faux Outrage About Huck’s Joke

While appearing for Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell, former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee joked that if McDonnell’s supporters know someone who isn’t planning on voting for their guy, they should “let the air out of their tires and do not let them out of their driveway on election day.”

One of the Democrats running for governor, Terry McAuliffe, is responding by turning up the outrage meter to eleven. He’s asking people sign a petition to “Tell Bob McDonnell to Stand up for Voting Rights and Support Reforms to Stop Voter Suppression.” (Yes, the outrage has overcome McAuliffe’s capacity to determine which words in a sentence should be capitalized.) Of course, to sign the petition, you have to enter your name, e-mail, and zip code, so the campaign can hit you up for donations and tell you to vote if you live in Virginia.

The story on Huckabee’s “outrage” was on the local NBC affiliate last night, but it wasn’t in today’s Washington Post. Interesting that the newspaper that did more than a hundred stories and columns mentioning “macaca” couldn’t bring themselves to treat this joke as a major issue.
