Obama Enjoys a Fundraising Break From His Fundraising Work

Obama’s latest message to his supporters:

Donate $3 or whatever you can before tonight’s fundraising deadline.

By pitching in before midnight, you’ll automatically be in the running to join me and George Clooney at his place on May 10th.

It’s not often I can get away from work, so I look forward to spending a fun evening in L.A. with a couple supporters like you.

Apparently swing voters think Obama gets away from work often enough:

Blue collar Democratic voters, stuck taking depressing “staycations” because they can’t afford gas and hotels, are resentful of the first family’s 17 lavish vacations around the world and don’t want their tax dollars paying for the Obamas’ holidays, according to a new analysis of swing voters.

[Pollster John] McLaughlin handled blue collar and Catholic voters in Pittsburgh on April 3 and Cleveland on March 20. He found that they are very depressed about the economy and feel that their tax dollars are being sucked up by both the rich and those living on government assistance.

During the focus group discussions about debt and spending cuts, many in his group volunteered criticism of the presidential vacations as something that should be cut. Among the lines McLaughlin wrote down was one from a Democratic woman who said, “Michelle Obama spends $1 million to take the kids to Hawaii,” and another who said, “President Obama was the only president to take so many trips.”

But obviously, Obama’s last trip out to Los Angeles wasn’t a getaway from work. It was work; just take a look:

Obama’s ninth visit to the City of Angels since his election will also be the coolest.

The Foo Fighters are set to headline a fundraising concert for Obama in Beverly Hills on Wednesday, and if last Sunday’s Grammy awards are any indication (they won 5 trophies and performed a rocking set), the band is going to bring the house down. Following the concert is a smaller dinner at the same venue, and then the President will stay in Los Angeles overnight.

On Thursday morning, Obama heads south to Corona del Mar for more campaign events before flying to San Francisco, where he’ll rock out again with Chris Cornell of Soundgarden. On Friday, he’s appearing at a Seattle fundraiser where local band The Head and The Heart will perform. Sounds like Obama is literally trying to rock the vote!
