The Campaign Spot

Okay, You Guys Can Stop Lowering Expectations Now

My first thought was that the New York Times was kicking John McCain when he’s down with this story, but it is a violation of Senate rules to solicit funds on Capitol grounds, and the candidate was playing with fire by making the calls that he did from the Senate cloakroom. The question is, did McCain say, “please donate” or just “don’t panic”?

This will be a one-day story, unless someone shows up saying, “Yes, I heard McCain, and he did ask for a donation on that call.”
This line in the story made me laugh out loud:

Rick Davis, Mr. McCain’s new campaign manager, joked that the campaign had been “exceptionally successful” in lowering expectations about its chances in Iowa.

That’s the spirit! When life gives you a lemon…
