The Campaign Spot

Our Well-Informed Public

Allow me to look at the inverse numbers of the recent Pew poll asking Americans basic facts about the news.

Forty-two (42) percent of Americans do not know that Tim Geithner is the Secretary of the Treasury.

Fourteen (14) percent of Americans do not know that the Democrats control Congress. A year ago, it was 30 percent.

Thirty-three (33) percent of Americans do not know that President Obama is increasing the number of U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

By the way, a little while back, I made a reference to the “Big Three” getting TARP funds, but Ford hasn’t taken any (they were involved in the initial discussions, then backed out). So I’m impressed that 51 percent of Americans identify Ford as the U.S. automaker that is not taking loans from the government.
