This isn’t the worst idea I’ve ever heard . . . and frankly, I’m a little baffled as to why someone would deliberately show up to protest a congressman who doesn’t represent where they live. (I can see gerrymandering leaving some voters confused on who actually represents them, but I just can’t picture, “Hey, kids! Pack up the car! For this year’s vacation we’re going to other districts to protest at town halls!” ) But Rep. Gene Green (D., Tex.) wants you to show ID before you can get into a town hall with him, in order to ensure that you really are one of his constituents.

Now, this is fine, but it makes his previous opposition to requiring a photo ID to vote look pretty ridiculous.

Apparently, you don’t need ID to vote for the man, just to talk to him.
