The Campaign Spot

Playing Devil’s Advocate For John Edwards, Devilish Advocate

So John Edwards doesn’t have a chance of snatching the nomination away from Hillary or Obama, does he?
I mean, it’s not huge, and Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer insists it’s not an endorsement, but he did get the netroot favorite, a two-term Democrat in a red state, to introduce him at an event. Time has Edwards up 5 in Iowa in their latest poll. And Edwards did get two more union endorsements the United Steel Workers and United Mine Workers of America.
Chris Bowers forecasts the other big unions:

SEIU, 1.8 million members: Probably Edwards, Obama or no one.
AFSCME, 1.5 million members: Could be any of the top three
Teamsters, 1.4 million members: Could be any of the top three
American Federation of Teachers, 830,000 members: Probably Clinton
UNITE-HERE: 450,000 members: Probably Edwards

He adds, “In every other case, from what I understand, pretty much every other union leans toward Edwards, or leans toward not making endorsement.”
That’s probably nowhere near enough to overtake Hillary. But it’s not nothing, and it suggests despite a lack of attention lately, Edwards’ campaign isn’t dead…
