Earlier today there were reports that Obama fundraiser Penny Pritzker — up to her ears in advocacy for sub-prime lending while on the board of a failing bank — would be his pick for Commerce Secretary.

I was momentarily worried that the rumored Pritzker nomination would distract Senate Republicans from focusing on really, really, really, really, really bad Attorney General nominee Eric Holder. If you’re going to hold together a coalition that opposes sub-prime cabinet nominees, it’s easier if you have one controversial nominee to focus your attention on instead of two or several.
Now comes word is that “she has taken herself out of the running to be secretary of Commerce because of vetting issues.” Good.
