Quinnipiac Finds Rudy Strong in Florida

Quinnipiac has completed a poll of 467 Republicans with a margin of error of +/- 4.5 percentage points, and 472 Democrats, with a margin of error of +/- 4.5 percentage points.

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani leads among Republican primary voters, with 31 percent, down from 38 percent on April 26.  Thompson gets 14 percent, up from 5 percent April 26, while McCain gets 10 percent, down from 15 percent.  Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney gets 8 percent and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich gets 7 percent.
Among Democrats, Clinton gets 34 percent, with 16 percent for Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, 13 percent for former Vice President Al Gore and 11 percent for 2004 vice presidential candidate John Edwards.

If it were up to me, I’d start dropping Al Gore from these poll questions. There have not been any serious signs of him running in a while, and Id like to see where that 13 percent would go when he’s not an option.
Notable in those numbers was that the Q-poll had McCain at 23 percent and in second place back on February 7. I thought the immigration stand was supposed to help him with Florida voters?
Also, the “don’t know” category has increased from 16 percent March 7 to 21 percent now.
In the head to head matchups, among 1,174 Florida voters:

Giuliani tops Clinton 47 – 42 percent.

Clinton tops Thompson 43 – 40 percent.

Clinton beats McCain 45 – 42 percent.

Giuliani beats Obama 44 – 40 percent.

Giuliani beats Gore 47 – 41 percent.

McCain gets 41 percent to Obama’s 40 percent.

Gore gets 43 percent to McCain’s 42 percent.

Obama beats Thompson 41 – 36 percent.

Gore tops Thompson 47 – 37 percent.

I get the feeling a lot of voters don’t feel like they know Fred Thompson yet.
