The Campaign Spot

The Romney Campaign’s Subscriptions: Laura Ingraham, Bill Bennett . . . People?

So what does the Romney campaign subscribe to?

According to data filed with the Federal Election Commission updated to May 9, “online subscriptions” make up $57,010.53 of the $105 million the campaign has spent so far.

The single largest expenditure in this category is $5,000 to “The Examiner,” based in Alexandria (presumably the Washington Examiner and its affiliates). However, twelve separate payments to Lexis-Nexis combine to make a total of $21,750 in payments to that news-archive service.

Most of the expenses are with newspapers in key states — presumably a campaign never knows when it might need to look into the archives to see what a primary rival or the president said to those newspapers in the not-so-recent past.

It’s interesting to see subscriptions to some of talk radio’s prominent names here – Laura Ingraham, Bill Bennett . . . but . . . somebody on the campaign paid $34.75 to access the online archives of People magazine?
