The ‘Saturday Night Live’ Reunion at the GOP Convention

The music in between speeches at the convention is being provided by guitarist G. E. Smith. If you’re of a certain age, you recognize that long blond ponytail from every commercial break on Saturday Night Live, where G. E. Smith led the band in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

I realized that you could hold a late-1980s SNL cast reunion here at the convention, as many of the cast members from those years — the best years, in my opinion — have become outspoken conservatives, libertarians, or at least Obama critics: Dennis Miller, Victoria Jackson, Jon Lovitz (a lifelong Democrat who’s exhausted with Obama’s demonization of the successful) . . . Dana Carvey has made comments about how Obama fans can’t deal with jokes about their guy. (Carvey did appear briefly in a video played here at the convention in a tribute to the presidency of George H. W. Bush.)

Maybe Kevin Nealon, Nora Dunn, and Jan Hooks will appear at the Democrats’ convention.
