Senator Udall: No Cabinet Post for Me

Despite a rumor, it appears Senator Tom Udall, a New Mexico Democrat, is not interested in replacing Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar.

If Udall had made the move, Republican governor Susana Martinez has the power to appoint a replacement, and the GOP could have picked up a Senate seat.

It appears the Obama cabinet picks have caused enough seat-shuffling for his party, creating appointed senators and/or special elections in Illinois (Obama himself), New York (Hillary Clinton), Delaware (Joe Biden), Colorado (Ken Salazar), Illinois again (Rahm Emanuel), California (Hilda Solis and Ellen Tauscher), and Massachusetts (John Kerry), and making Jan Brewer the governor of Arizona when he named Janet Napolitano the Secretary of Homeland Security.
