Yesterday, I mentioned the possibility that Colorado state legislator Josh Penry, no longer running for governor, might be interested in running for the U.S. House of Representatives in the state’s 3rd district. A news story that State Rep. Scott Tipton (R., Cortez) is now running for that seat includes this detail on Penry’s interest, or previous lack of it:
Tipton is not the only Republican aiming at Salazar next year. Glenwood Springs District Attorney Martin Beeson has been a declared candidate for months and Steamboat Springs lawyer Bob McConnell has recently joined the race.
Tipton’s announcement also comes in the same week that state Sen. Josh Penry, R-Grand Junction, backed out of the gubernatorial race, leaving the question of whether he was interested in the 3rd District, which includes all of the Western Slope but reaches east to include Pueblo.
“Josh is one of the people who urged me to run again,” Tipton said, indicating he didn’t expect Penry to join the 3rd District contest.
By no means am I endorsing, but I will observe that running a candidate whose name is spelled “B-O-B M-C-another letter-O-N-N-E-L-L” has worked well for Republicans lately.
