Sooner or later, every major political issue gets dragged into our nation’s courtrooms, which is why judicial fights are treated as all-out war between the parties.
In South Carolina, a teenager’s lawsuit aims to force Gov. Mark Sanford to spend all of the stimulus money sent to his state by Congress. While the suit isn’t a slam-dunk, the state’s attorney general is saying that “once the General Assembly approves spending the money — giving it the force of law — then legal questions over whether the Legislature can compel the governor to spend the money can be weighed and answered by the courts.”
Meanwhile, the Thomas More Law Center is suing Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, arguing that the inane “look out for right-wing violence, even though we have no information indicating anything” report “violates the civil liberties of combat veterans as well as American citizens by targeting them for disfavored treatment on account of their political beliefs.”
Looks like the recession ends first for the lawyers.
