Squaring Obama’s Partial-Birth Abortion Comment With His ‘Responsibility’ Applause Line

Over in the Corner, Yuval Levin and Ramesh try to make sense out of Obama’s comments on whether mental health is a justification for a partial-birth abortion.

Ramesh’s conclusion: “Based both on his co-sponsorship of the Freedom of Choice Act and his comments on Roe v. Wade, Obama is committed to legal abortion at any stage of pregnancy for essentially any reason, and he wants it subsidized by taxpayers too. Is he the most pro-abortion nominee ever? He at least ties.”
I would just note the irony of this position with another one of Obama’s much-applauded lines from his speech on fatherhood: “We need fathers to realize that responsibility does not end at conception.”
So responsibility continues after conception, but not necessarily life. Well, that clarifies things.
