The Campaign Spot

Stephanie Cutter’s Rough Definition of ‘Roughly’

Today on Morning Joe, Obama’s deputy campaign manager, Stephanie Cutter, said that the polls were “roughly” what they were before the debate.

Ahem:

On the heels of last week’s presidential debate, Mitt Romney has emerged with a one-point edge over President Obama in Colorado and has cut the president’s lead in half in Wisconsin, according to a new Quinnipiac University/CBS News/New York Times poll.

Ahem:

A week after President Barack Obama’s lackluster debate performance, Republican challenger Mitt Romney has made some gains in three key swing states among those most likely to vote, according to the latest round of NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist polls. Romney and Obama remain in a virtual tie in Virginia and Florida, and the Democratic incumbent maintains a slight advantage in Ohio.

Ahem: The RealClearPolitics average shifted from a 4.1 percentage point lead for Obama nationally on September 28 to a 1.5 percentage point lead for Romney this morning.

As I said, Stephanie Cutter has a brutal definition of “roughly.”
