The Campaign Spot

Those Extra Two Years Make a Difference, Huh?

Among Senate Democrats, there are two “nos” and three “maybes” on the Omnibus Appropriations Bill, derided as “Son of Stimulus” in some circles.

The “no” votes, Sens. Evan Bayh of Indiana and Russell Feingold of Wisconsin, are both up for reelection in 2010. They’re longtime Senate veterans, and would probably be tough to knock off. But Indiana is a fairly conservative state, and Wisconsin prides itself on electing reformers who stand up for good government — so both have a political incentive to be seen as standing up against waste and excessive spending.

The three Democratic maybes — Sens. Ben Nelson of Nebraska, Robert Menendez of New Jersey, and Claire McCaskill of Missouri — all are up for reelection in 2012.
