The tagline for the latest Aliens vs. Predator movie seems appropriate for the way this holiday season has shaped up: “This Christmas, there will be no peace on earth.” Nothing like two closely contested party primaries to put people into a mood of perpetual agitation, anger, snippiness, defensiveness, and hostility.
Still, it is now about twelve hours away from Christmas. And while Iowa and New Hampshire are not far past that day, there still ought to be time to take a deep breath, and enjoy the holiday with loved ones.
If there’s political news in the next day or so, you’ll find it here. But barring something blowing up somewhere or another tsunami, there’s not much need for word on the latest back-and-forth e-mail press releases. Hug your family, drink your eggnog, and spend a day or so in the world beyond polls, campaign ads, and parsed statements. The campaign will be here when you get back.
If you celebrate Christmas, Merry Christmas. If you celebrate Hannukah, I should have wished you a happy one a few weeks back. If you celebrate Kwannza… have a good one starting Wednesday. (Okay, I had to look that up.) And whatever you’re doing tomorrow, I hope it’s a good one.
