Is Today Iran’s Tiananmen Square? (UPDATE: July 4 Invite Off?)

Mitt Romney says Obama’s stance on Iran is getting better.

In reference to the item below, several separate voices are describing a clash outside the parliament building, although there’s no corroboration yet on the details. Still, if accurate, it’s grisly — opening fire on crowds, bodies being taken away in trucks, protesters drenched in blood, thugs hacking at people with axes.

If Baharestan Square on June 24, 2009, becomes Iran’s Tiananmen Square, can the U.S. really invite Iranian diplomats to its embassies to celebrate Independence Day just ten days later?

UPDATE: “The Obama administration is seriously considering not extending invitations to Iranian diplomats for July 4 celebrations overseas, senior administration officials tell CNN. The officials said intense discussions on the issue were taking place, but the final decision had not been made.”
