When in Doubt, Turn to Local TV Interviews

Here it comes:

The day after telling House Majority Leader Eric Cantor he would take his case on the deficit “to the American people,” President Obama will sit down with three local TV reporters to do just that. In guidance to reporters, the White House said Obama will talk about “the economy and the importance of finding a balanced approach to deficit reduction.”The interviews will be shown starting at 5 p.m., the White House said — just after the fifth round of negotiations with congressional leaders starts in the Cabinet Room.

Because when it comes to Obama discussing his budgetary priorities and philosophy of government, it always goes well with local television reporters:

As you may recall:

Obama grew testy with a reporter from a Dallas-Fort Worth TV station who at one point reminded him that he lost in the state by more than 10 points in 2008, not the “few percentage points” he claimed during the interview.

The reporter, Brad Watson, also asked Obama why he “was so unpopular in Texas.”

Finally, Obama responded: “If what you’re telling me is Texas is a conservative state, you’re absolutely right.”

As the interview ended, Obama admonished Watson, saying,  “Let me finish my answers the next time we do an interview, all right?”

Why do I suspect Brad Watson won’t be among today’s invited reporters?
