Will the House Energy and Commerce Committee Mark Up Health Care This Afternoon? (UPDATED)

There’s a rumor that the House Energy and Commerce Committee will reconvene at 2 p.m. to mark up their version of the health care bill. I talked to a staffer on Capitol Hill who was hearing similar noises. This person warns that getting any amendments that enact their compromises drafted by the committee’s legislative counsel would be difficult by then, but not impossible; beyond that, Waxman had established a rule that all amendments must be submitted for two hours before they’re officially introduced before the committee and considered.

However, there’s a possibility that Waxman has worked out a deal with the Blue Dogs to reject all Republican amendments until their compromise amendments are ready to go.

Stay tuned.

UPDATE: CNN’s Dana Bash reports the Energy and Commerce Committee will vote on health care legislation by Friday; there will be no House floor vote until the fall.

It appears the Blue Dogs compromised, at least partially.

One of my sources tells me the markup begins this afternoon and will go on through Thursday and Friday.
