The Campaign Spot

Will Obama Roll The Dice? Can He?

Regarding my skepticism about the effectiveness of his suggestion that Obama should go after Hillary on ethics, Quin Hillyer responds, “he’s getting crushed by the Clinton juggernaut anyway. The only chance he or anybody else has of beating her is to roll the dice.”

Yup, he is. And that’s one of the reasons I can’t help but wonder how badly Obama wants this. Since exploding on the national stage, he’s projected the image of a man who would rather lose than compromise his principles. If he can’t run his kind of campaign and win, he won’t run.
Obama’s got to get Democratic primary voters – already seeing her gathering momentum like a runaway steamroller – to say, “No, no, no, I can’t do it, I can’t vote for her.” Maybe he can get there with his, “Washington lobbyists have chosen their candidate” line. I think he’d be better off with the argument that if George W. Bush is comfortable with her as his successor on the issue of Iraq, the Democrats are on the verge of making their worst mistake since so many voted for the Iraq war.
