Will Wright Cost Obama The Independent Vote?

Will there be lingering fallout from the Jeremiah Wright brouhaha? One number I’ll be keeping an eye on is Barack Obama’s numbers among independents, a demographic that, back in Iowa, we were hearing he was carrying by wide margins.

Here’s one poll so far, although I note it’s among registered voters, not likely voters:

Sixty-one percent of independent voters say they are unaffected, but 36 percent said it made their view less favorable. Two percent of independents said it made them more favorable view.

And note this detail from Zogby’s latest batch:

Among independents, Mr. McCain led for the first time in the poll, 46% to 36% over Obama.
