Christie to Use Federal Hurricane Sandy $ for Boardwalk Debris Removal

Federal funding provided to New Jersey after Hurricane Sandy will help Seaside Park and Seaside Heights finance debris removal related to the boardwalk fire, the governor’s office announced today.

Both Jersey Shore towns are now eligible to receive funding through the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery program to help deal with the aftermath of last week’s blaze. The New Jersey Economic Development Authority will administer the funding. Businesses impacted by the fire that have already received funding through the federal grant program may also apply for additional money.

“By alleviating the costs associated with the debris removal process, state, county, and local officials as well as private entities can get down to work immediately to restore one of the Jersey Shore’s most iconic boardwalks,” Gov. Chris Christie said in a statement. . .
