Good News: Used Condoms Not Clogging the Toilets at India’s Commonwealth Games

As chef de mission of the Australian team, Steve Moneghetti has had to answer questions about everything from competitors throwing tantrums to the poor air quality in Delhi.

But yesterday he faced questions on a new front – whether used condoms were indeed clogging up the toilets at the athletes village.

Under the front page headline, “It’s a rubbery problem at the CWG village”, Indian tabloid The Mail Today reported on the disturbing discovery made by local plumbers called in to fix clogged toilets.

“They found that thousands of used condoms, which had been flushed down, were clogging the system,” The Mail Today said.

Moneghetti said there had been no problem with the toilets in the Australian team’s section of the village.

In fact, with several of the team going down with ‘Delhi belly’, the toilets were regularly in use, he said.

“We’ve got no problems with going,” he said.
