David Lemar, the President of the African-American Libertarian Alliance, attended meetings with Chicago Public Schools board members about the proposal to hire more minorities, particularly African Americans and Latinos, for more teaching jobs. “This is absolutely an insult to education,” says Mr. Lemar. “We don’t need to dumb down our schools even more by hiring people that aren’t qualified.”
However, board member officials insist they are not hiring less qualified teachers, but that they are changing their recruiting and testing methods in a way that will help more minority teachers get employed. Still, Mr. Lemar isn’t satisfied.
A couple weeks back, the Chicago Fire Dept. and the Chicago Police Dept. announced a similar plan. Insiders say that all policies that promote racial hiring could be fought back with lawsuits. . .
