New York’s State-Run ACA Exchange Seems to be Working

More than 40,000 New Yorkers have applied for health insurance through the state’s new online health insurance exchange since it opened a week ago, according to the state Health Department.

The department said the 40,000 New Yorkers have completed the full application process, been deemed eligible for health insurance plans and can now choose plans.

Exchanges in New York and other states got off to a rocky start after opening Oct. 1 because of technical problems. Heavier than anticipated volume made it difficult for many visitors to the New York website to log in last week.

In today’s announcement, the state said improvements have been made over the past week to improve the website’s performance. Technicians have been monitoring the site around the clock. . .
