Schimel Addresses Domestic Violence Concerns

Waukesha County district attorney and Republican attorney general candidate Brad Schimel wants to increase and improve training for professionals responding to domestic violence calls, part of a 23-point targeted plan released by his campaign this week.

Schimel would create a task force that would make college campuses safer, an idea Wisconsin Radio Network says may be a response to recent accusations of a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee fraternity using date rape drugs.

“It’s good that Brad Schimel has seen the light on sexual assaults on campus,”  Josh Lease, campaign manager for Schimel’s opponent, Susan Happ, Jefferson County district attorney said in a statement. “We hope he will join with Susan Happ and begin fighting for a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions.”

“That’s the response we’d expect from an activist,” Schimel campaign manager Johnny Koremenos told me in an e-mail response. “The role of the attorney general is to enforce the law, but Susan Happ wants to inject politics in the Department of Justice by picking and choosing which laws she personally wants to defend.”
