Re: Biden: ‘This is Not Your Father’s Republican Party’

Last month, Battle ‘10 covered Vice President Biden’s remarks at Penn State where he made a comment that has become a standard part of his stump speech as he travels the country, trying to bolster struggling Democrats.

A Battle ‘10 reader e-mailed this morning with this:

I just heard the “This is not your father’s Republican Party” line from Biden: “This is not your father’s Republican Party. This is the Republican Tea Party, no this is a different deal, guys. This is not Bob Dole. This is not Howard Baker. This is not straightforward conservative, conservative Republicans, like the Tafts of the world. This is a different breed of cat.”

That may be true, but the drivel from the Democrats is still the same. Here’s an attack ad on Dole from 1996: “if Mr. Dole had been president when Republicans took control of Congress in 1995, “he would have already cut Medicare $270 billion. Toxic polluters off the hook. No to the Brady Bill: 60,000 criminals allowed to buy handguns. Slashed education.”

Cutting Medicare, slashing education, being the handmaidens of big business, I’m sure there’s a racism charge in there as well.  While the Republicans have changed, it’s the same old Democrat demagoguery. Yawn.
