The Pawlenty campaign was downplaying expectations last month, telling NRO that Pawlenty was hoping to do “better than sixth or seventh” place, but in an interview last night, Tim Pawlenty sounded more confident about how he will do at Ames.
“I think we’re going to do very well. I’m confident of that. The same straw poll is more of an organizational exercise than it is a random poll,” Pawlenty told Fox News host Sean Hannity last night.
“But I think when my record continues to get out across Iowa and America — reducing spending and doing health care reform the right way, with no individual mandates, no government takeovers and appointing conservative justices and more, we’re going to continue to get good moment. I think you’ll see the first step of that in the straw poll next week,” he added.
