Schumer in 2007: No More Supreme Court Confirmations

As this Politico article reported, in late July 2007—more than 15 months in advance of the 2008 presidential election—Democratic senator Chuck Schumer, “a powerful member of the Democratic leadership,” told an American Constitution Society convention that the Senate “should not confirm another U.S. Supreme Court nominee under President Bush ‘except in extraordinary circumstances.’”
