Cameron

Up to a point, Iain. Cameron seems to be emerging as a somewhat traditional Tory, complete with a traditionally Tory disdain for business, a traditionally Tory suspicion of liberty and a traditionally Tory embrace of humbug. Who knows, it might bring some much-needed electoral success (and, yes, Cameron would be far better than Blair/Brown) but forgive me if my enthusiasm is, for now, a little lukewarm.   Turning to one specific point. Cameron is, quite correctly, concerned at the way the UK’s Human Rights Act is working (hijackers being given asylum and so on), but what Cameron has not (so far as I’m aware) said is that repeal or substantive amendment of that Act will almost certainly be impossible under EU law.   And on that question, as on so much else, there is nothing from Cameron but silence.
