“Ferocious People”

So there I was, catching up on a back issue of the British magazine, The Spectator, when I came upon this review of a memoir by Gloria Steinem. The author?  Carmen Callil, a distinguished figure on the British literary scene.

I started reading what Callil had to say and then I came across this:

Unfortunately for us, we know all too much about what she battles against: segregation and the savage white racism still so prevalent in the US, a savagery echoed in its strange ‘Christian’ fundamentalist groups and isms, ferocious people who would murder Jesus Christ on the spot if he rose again to confront them.

I’ll just leave that out there.
