Kathryn, I’ve had a look at the report. What appears to be contemplated is merely the opening of an ‘U.S. interests section’, an eminently sensible move, so long (given Iran’s disgraceful history in this respect) that every possible step is taken to guarantee the safety of any U.S. diplomats posted there. Does this imply some sort of ‘approval’ of the Iranian regime? Nope. To take just one possible point of comparison, the U.S. also has an interests section in Havana…
