The Corner

Good Grief

Is it just me, or is this is a story that ABC really should not have released:

The CIA has received secret presidential approval to mount a covert “black” operation to destabilize the Iranian government, current and former officials in the intelligence community tell the Blotter on ABCNews.com.

While I expect that, in reality, this shouldn’t be news (if the CIA is not doing such operations, it’s not doing its job – and the Iranians know it), this sort of publicity cannot be helpful to any efforts to put an end to the Iranian dictatorship. Worse, stories like this give the mullahs additional ammunition when they argue (falsely) that the Iranian opposition is made up of US puppets.  I’ll expect the Valerie Plame crowd to go after the leakers. Not.
