This year, the Sports Turf Managers Association is having its annual conference in Daytona, Fla., from January 15–19. Guess who will be speaking, in the primo spot, to close the “General Session” (this outfit sounds like the U.N.)? National Review– and Mark Steyn–suing global-warming academic Michael Mann.
When I last addressed the matter of Mann’s suit (we are still seeking your support to defend against it — please consider contributing here), I stumbled upon this info, promoting an upcoming Mann speech (January 17 in Orlando), in which the Penn State prof is described as a “Co-Recipient of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.” The brazen claim has been thoroughly debunked.
Yet it persists, and the Bogus Claim that Will Not Die is now being used to woo turf managers. From their conference agenda (about the aforementioned General Session closing):
Dr. Michael Mann
Author of The Hockey Stick and the Climate Wars: Dispatches from the Front Lines and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, shared with other members of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Dr. Mann is also a co-founder and avid contributor to the award-winning science website RealClimate.org.
By the way, on his own website Mann boasts: “He contributed, with other IPCC authors, to the award of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.” Reminds me of Libby the Kid: Is that a sideways . . . sort of award claim?
