Jonah: The thing that started to do it for me — i.e., created the pathways for the beliefs and convictions that would come later — was literature, especially dystopian science fiction. I recommend Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, 1984 by George Orwell, and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. It’s hard to read those and not come away believing in freedom. A more recent book that has started to have a similar effect on a younger generation is The Giver by Lois Lowry.
