UN inspection agency spokesman Buchanan on why the UN temporarily suspended U-2 flights over Iraq (it had been the first time that two U2s had been operating simultaneously over the country):
“The Iraqis were concerned about it. They asked us why two planes were operating and said it was a surprise to them. We did not want to do anything to get them upset, so we requested that America withdrew the aircraft.”
That seems a touch feeble.
