In an interview released Tuesday, Philippe Reines, a former adviser to Hillary Clinton, said Juanita Broaddrick, the woman who accused Bill Clinton of raping her in the 1978, was “full of sh*t.”
Asked by National Review podcast host Jamie Weinstein how he viewed Clinton’s presidency in light of the #MeToo movement, Reines said unequivocally that he did not believe Broaddrick’s allegation.
“Juanita Broaddrick is full of sh*t,” Reines said.
“So you don’t think she’s telling the truth about that?” Weinstein responded.
“I do not think she’s telling the truth. More importantly, Ken Starr did not think that she was telling the truth,” Reines said. “For me, I assume Ken Starr pulled no punches.”
Independent Counsel Ken Starr interviewed Broaddrick in 1999 as part of his investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct levied against then-President Clinton by Paula Jones. After initially exonerating Clinton in a sworn statement, Broaddrick recanted and came forward with her claim that Clinton, then the Arkansas attorney general, raped her after luring her to a hotel room under the guise of a professional meeting.
“It scared me to death. After the rape, after he left my room, I thought someone was going to come in to get rid of my body. That’s how I felt,” Broaddrick said in a recent interview with Fox News. “My lip was swollen twice the size, I couldn’t even cover it up with makeup for three or four days.”
“After it was done, he coldly looked at me and said, ‘You’d better put some ice on that.’ I’ll never forget it,” she added.
Following the October 2016 release of the infamous Access Hollywood tape in which Donald Trump bragged about groping women, then-candidate Trump invited Broaddrick and a number of other women who have accused President Clinton of sexual assault to his debate against Hillary Clinton.
“Actions speak louder than words,” Broaddrick said at a press conference ahead of the debate. “Mr. Trump may have said some bad words, but Bill Clinton raped me and Hillary Clinton threatened me. I don’t think there’s any comparison.”
