Six people were killed and at least ten people wounded in a mass shooting Sunday morning in downtown Sacramento. Authorities have yet to identify a suspect in the tragedy.

Sacramento Police Chief Kathy Lester said at a press conference that police arrived at the scene at around 2 a.m. when the damage was done but the gunman was still unknown. The ten injured people went to the hospital to receive medical care, but it’s not unclear whether all or any are in stable or critical condition.

The police did not indicate that they had any leads on suspects or individuals involved in the incident. There is not yet knowledge of motivation behind the murders, it appears. Lester noted that it was “a very complex and complicated scene,” urging those with information or evidence to present it to police.

“We are asking for the public’s help in helping us to identify the suspects in this and provide any information that you can to help us solve this. Right now our investigators are arriving on scene and, like I said, this is very very preliminary. We do not have a lot of details to share,” Lester said.

A Twitter video reportedly showed people running through the street fleeing what seemed to be a gunman firing. A witness, Berry Accius, recalled to CBS News how the horrific event unfolded.

“The first thing I saw was like victims. I saw a young girl with a whole bunch of blood in her body, a girl taking off glass from her, a young girl screaming saying, ‘They killed my sister.’ A mother running up, ‘Where’s my son, has my son been shot?'” he said.

The shooting Sunday comes amid a spike in gun and overall crime in major metropolitan areas nationwide.
