‘Shocked and Disgusted’: Tony Bobulinski’s Lawyer Escalates Feud with Jamie Raskin Over Testimony

A lawyer for former Biden business associate Tony Bobulinski is again accusing Representative Jamie Raskin of misrepresenting Bobulinski’s recent congressional testimony and dishonestly attacking his client’s character.

Stefan Passantino, Bobulinski’s lawyer, wrote a letter to the Maryland Democrat on Wednesday.

“Perhaps this is difficult for you — or any other member of the House Oversight Committee who has not served in the military and been willing to die for the country — to understand, but I am shocked and disgusted that you or anyone else would question his motives, patriotism or sincerity when you dishonestly assert that Mr. Bobulinski ‘did not offer any evidence of wrongdoing by President Biden’ or ‘provide any evidence that President Biden was involved in his family’s business dealings,'” Passantino wrote, according to a copy of his letter obtained by National Review.

Bobulinski, who has claimed to have evidence showing that President Joe Biden profited from his son Hunter’s business deals in China, testified behind closed doors before the House Oversight and Judiciary committees last week.

Raskin wrote a letter on Tuesday to Bobulinski and House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R., Ky.) blasting Bobulinski for giving a “chaotic” interview where he “repeatedly yelled, shouted, filibustered, and hurled outlandish and baseless accusations and insults against Democratic Members and staff,” ABC News first reported.

Passantino alleged that Raskin sent ABC News the letter before he had a chance to see it. Passantino previously wrote to Raskin criticizing his statement released at the conclusion of Bobulinski’s testimony before a transcript of the closed-door session was publicly available.

Comer and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan released the transcript of Bobulinski’s testimony on February 16, three days after Bobulinski testified. Raskin and Representative Dan Goldman (D., N.Y.) repeatedly insulted, interrupted and disparaged Bobulinski during his lengthy testimony, the transcript shows.

Passantino’s letter cites excerpts of Bobulinski’s testimony and multiple Whatsapp text messages sent to Bobulinski by Hunter Biden and other business associates surrounding the 2017 negotiations with Chinese conglomerate CEFC over a proposed joint venture known as “SinoHawk” that eventually fell apart.

“With respect to your claim that Mr. Bobulinski did not offer evidence of wrongdoing, he clearly testified to the authenticity of communications in which Hunter Biden’s business partners introduced Mr. Bobulinski to a potential business transaction between the Chinese and ‘the Biden family,'” Passantino said to introduce the exhibits.

Among the texts is a December 2015 message from businessman James Gilliar to Bobulinski introducing the possibility of a deal involving a prominent American family, which Bobulinski believed to be the Biden family.

“So, when he sent this, I had a general — he was actually in D.C. to attend the vice president’s Christmas party in December 2015. So, I could just generally put the pieces of the puzzle together, and I was operating under the impression that he was talking about the Biden family,” Bobulinski testified.

In February 2017, Gilliar texted Bobulinski confirming his business partner was Hunter Biden. Bobulinski vividly recalled meeting with Hunter Biden, Joe Biden and James Biden, the president’s brother, to discuss the “SinoHawk” venture in May 2017 during a Milken Institute conference.

“My questions were focused on political headlines. ‘How are you guys doing this? It makes no sense to me. Why would you take this risk to yourself, to your family’s brand that Hunter screams about, and all that stuff?'” Bobulinski recalled. “And [James Biden] looks at me and sort of chuckles and says, ‘Plausible deniability.'”

Bobulinski described Whatsapp messages where Hunter Biden called Joe Biden his “Chairman.” Passantino shared one of those texts in his letter to Raskin. Gilliar advised Bobulinski in May 2017 not to discuss Joe Biden’s involvement in the CEFC venture and suggested the Bidens were paranoid about it, a separate text message shows.

“Don’t mention Joe being involved, it’s only when u are face to face, I know u know that but they are paranoid,” Gilliar said.

Gilliar is the same business asssociate who floated the possibility of giving ten percent ownership of “SinoHawk” to Joe Biden through his son, according to emails on Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop archive. “10 held by H for the big guy?” Gilliar asked in a May 2017 email to Bobulinski, Hunter Biden and business associate Rob Walker, the New York Post first reported.

The initial version of the ABC News story falsely attributed the “big guy” email to Bobulinski, an error Passantino pointed out in his letter to Raskin. An updated version of the ABC News story features an editor’s note identifying the error and noting it has been corrected.

Bobulinski told lawmakers the businessmen understood Joe Biden was the “big guy” and Gilliar often spoke in code because of his intelligence background. Walker testified that nobody responded to Bobulinski’s correspondence to Gilliar, despite the emails on Hunter Biden’s laptop showing otherwise, Passantino said, with the emails attached in his letter.

Passantino concludes his letter by suggesting Hunter Biden and his business associates testify publicly to answer questions about the Biden family’s foreign business dealings. Hunter Biden’s closed-door testimony is scheduled to take place on February 28.
